Gold was first discovered by a small boy playing on the left over land in 1824. for thirty long years locals were allowed to extract the precious metal and sell it at the governmental price. Later the rights of selling the metal was granted to the Aruba Island Gold Mining Company. Tourists can climb around the nearby uphill and witness the mines.
