Tourist Attractions in Easter Island

Moai
The biggest tourist attractions in Easter Island are, of course, the Moai. These massive stone structures- a major Tourist Attraction in Easter Island, have fascinated many archeologists world over. The Moais give us an important clue of the past descendants of the Island and are hence fiercely protected from any defacement. Moai is often placed upon ceremonial platforms and burials called Ahu. It is considered as an utterly disrespectful gesture to walk on the Ahu.

Rano Raraku
Another must see place in the Easter Island is the slightly inland quarry at "Rano Raraku". The sight of this colossal 300 foot volcano remnant is sure to overwhelm you. It is this site that provided the stones for the great figures and here the visitors can see various stages of the carving, as well as several partially-finished figures clumsily scattered around. However, these unfinished works are as alluring as the complete structures.

Rano Kau
You can visit this Chilean National Park site for a moderate entry fee and enjoy a breathtaking view of the island from this vantage point.

Anakena and Ahu Vaihu Beach
Enjoy the soft sands and surfing in the beach of Anakena or sneak to the hidden beach of Ahu Vaihu surrounded by majestic cliffs.

Easter Island Cave Systems
Those with a strong adventure streak can venture to explore these outlandish, extensive cave systems, many of which run extremely deep. A couple of these are official and open for public viewing, however those who want to delve into the mysterious darkness of the unofficial caves must be careful as they can be damp and slippery and pose a strong challenge for the person to find his way out in case he looses his torch or flashlight.
