Fiji

The official name of Fiji is Republic of the Fiji Islands. An island nation, tucked away in the South Pacific Ocean with Vanuatu on the west, Tonga in the east Tuvalu to its north, Fiji is occupies an archipelago of about 322 islands, of which 106 have permanent population while the rest 522 are islets. 87% of the total population of Fiji is concentrated in the two major islands of Viti Levu and Vanua Levu.

The earliest inhabitants of Fiji came from South East Asia around 1000 BC as indicated by the excavated pottery traced to these first inhabitants. It was much later in the 17th century when European explorers discovered Fiji.

There are three official languages of Fiji as prescribed by the constitution: English, Bau Fijian and Hindustani.
