Azores is a collection of nine Atlantic Ocean islands located due west of Portugal, about a third of the way to the USA. There are frequent connecting inter island flights to help tourists move from one island to other. However, these flights tend to be expensive and are hence suitably substituted by the timely ferry services between these islands. There are regular ferries between Faial, Pico and São Jorge, also between Terceira and Graciosa.
More than a substitute, these ferries have come up as a better option for transportation between these islands due to their timely, efficient and cost effective services. While a flight from Sao Miguel to Terceira only takes 40 minutes, the journey from Pico to Faial takes 30 minutes on a ferry.
The two major ferry companies are:
Açorline
Transnaço
You can visit their website for further information on the various inter-island ferry schedules.
