Tourist Attractions in Grand Terre

A sassy blend of French culture and Creole esprit created the island of natural wonders named Grand Tere. The stretchy coral beaches, the volcano of La Soufriere, and the triple waterfalls of the Carbet comprise the main charm of this island. Besides, the endless plantations, old mills, quaint hamlets, and picturesque fishing villages are the other attractions of this gorgeous tropical island.

Guadeloupe is actually made up of two main islands - Grande-Terre in the east and Basse-Terre in the west. Surprisingly, each of these two locales cherishes utterly different remarkable landscapes. While Basse-Terre is a land of forest-covered mountains and volcanic peaks, lakes, hot springs, waterfalls and mountain trails, Grand-Terre is known for its sugarcane fields, low, dry hills lined with striking white-sand beaches.

Main Attractions:

Pointe-a-Pitre is steeped in history with a texture of colonial times. The best place to discover it is around the Place de la Victoire . For the guests with a scholarly bent of mind, there are two museums worth checking.

Musee Schoelcher is famous for holding information about the French political leader who was active in putting an end to slavery in the Caribbean colonies.

Musee St. John Perse , a museum dedicated to the Guadeloupean poet who got Nobel Prize in 1960.

An architectural wonder must be observed is the Cathedral of St. Peter and St. Paul .

18th-century Fort Fleur d'Epee is another tourist spot for some fun. It explores the well-preserved battlements and prisons.

The Guadeloupe Aquarium presents the land dweller an excellent glance of the underwater world.

Other highlights:

Other highlights include—

The Chutes du Carbet —a trio of 410-foot-high waterfalls and

La Soufriere —a captivating (and dormant) 4,813-foot-high volcano with all of the common volcano extras-- steamy sulfur pits, mud cauldrons and plenty of smoke holes.

Crater's edge —where an eerie moonscape with pools of bubbling mud and strange rock formations entice the mind.

So make a trip to this gorgeous island and experience a perfect getaway. Travour.com offers information on Tourist Attractions in Grand Terre and Romantic vacations in Grand Terre. For more information on Grand Terre and other islands worldwide, keep browsing through Travour.
