Weather in Azores

Azores enjoys an equable maritime climate all year round. However, one should not rule out fluctuating weather conditions as characteristic of maritime climate. On an eventful day in Azores you can experience wind and calm, and hot sun and showers in any combination. A popular saying in the Azores sums up its weather conditions pretty well, "If you don't like the weather in The Azores - just wait 10 minutes!"

With extreme temperatures ruled out, the weather is always pleasant inAzores making it a popular tourist Destination all round the year.

Summers are warm but never scorching hot with average temperature of 22 degrees Centigrade (71 Fahrenheit). Storms and showers occasionally break the calm of summers.

Winters are cold but not chilly with temperatures dipping to an average of 14 degrees Centigrade (57 Fahrenheit). It is not rare for winters to be stormy and changeable when deep Atlantic depressions track across or near the islands.

The daylight hours are only moderate for the latitude and range from an average of three to four hours a day in winter to seven to eight in summer.

Though the rainy season is from November to March, the rains wet the island throughout the year, though they are heavier and more frequent in winter.

The high humidity keeps the locals and visitors sweating a lot.

What to carry on a trip to Azores: Do not forget to pack a fleece jacket and a raincoat as well as bathing clothes in your suitcase while leaving for Azores. Mid-season clothes are best.
