Tourist Attractions in Iceland

Iceland has loads to explore and is dotted with numerous tourists attractions. From beautiful landscapes to the huge icebergs, Iceland has everything. Some of the main attraction of Iceland are:

Lake Mývatn Conservation Area

Set as a special conservation area in 1974 the Mývatn region has since then has developed itself as a top tourist attraction of Iceland. Being one of the most geologically active area the flora of the place has developed to a great extent and has become one of the most beautiful area in Iceland. Tourists to this area can enjoy the varied birdlife along with some of the stunning landscapes which includes mud flats, volcanic craters and newborn lava fields. The crystal blue water of the lake and the waterfall of the God can stun everyone. It is Europe's most potent waterfall.

The Westmann Islands (Vestmannaeyjar)

Located at the end of the world these islands are synonymous to paradise with its untamed wildlife. It is the home to the famed 'free willy (Keiko)'. A nearby island created by volcanic eruption has now become a great tourist attraction as the youngest island of the world.


Snaefellsnes Peninsula and the Snaefellsjokull Glacier

On a sunny day in Reykjavik, the view of the Snaefellsjokull glacier is truly captivating; though the glacier is situated around 60 miles from the city. The peninsula is dotted with lava caves, waterfalls, and hot springs.

Thingvellir

The place is filled with natural beauty comprising of the largest lake of the island, Thingvallavtn. It also is the home to National Parks and fishing lakes. The first Parliament of Iceland met here in AD 900.


The Blue Lagoon

One of the most exciting sites of Iceland, Blue Lagoon is probably the most photographed place in the island. The aquamarine look provided by the sedimentation of the white silica mud and the blue-green algae makes this Lagoon more attractive. It is also famous for the favorite spot for a dip into the 40 Degree Celsius hot water which is supposed to have curative power.

The Árnesinga Folk Museum

Located in Húsið in the village of Eyrarbakki this museum is one of the oldest landmark of Iceland. The museum narrated the proud history of the island.

The Vidimyri Turf Church

This famous church showcases the finest architecture of Iceland. The monument is made up of a mixture of driftwood and turf. You cannot see a stranger structure in Iceland than the The Vidimyri Turf Church.

Skógar Folk Museum

The folk museum showcases some of the best artifacts of Iceland. As a matter of fact the count reaches to 6000.
