Jekyll Island

Jekyll Island is situated off the coast of Georgia, in Glynn County. Being a sea island, it is one of the Golden Isles of Georgia. The names of its nearby islands are the city of Brunswick, Georgia, the Marshes of Glynn and the larger St. Simons Island. Its seashores are frequently visited by sightseers and guided tours of the Landmark Historic District are available. The district contains a number of buildings from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

Jekyll Island is the smallest of Georgia's barrier islands. It is situated in Glynn County. The western side of Jekyll Island is fronted by Jekyll Creek and salt marsh, and the eastern edge of the island is defined by its beach and the Atlantic Ocean.


The natural environment of Jekyll Island consists of live oak forest canopy with a jungle floor dominated by palmetto and scrub oak. Animals found on the island include white-tailed deer, raccoons, rabbits, and squirrels. The tidal creeks and streams of the salt marsh provide a variety of resources, including seasonal fish and shellfish.
