Weather in Rhode Island
Rhode Island enjoys a warm summer humid continental climate and is blessed with a distinct seasonal cycle of four seasons. The moderating influence of the sea winds, tempers the weather conditions particularly in the Seaboard Lowland, which has a more moderate climate than the rest of New England. As is characteristic of moist continental climate, the island experiences hot rainy summers and cold snowy winters. The average annual air temperature is about 50o F (10o C) in various parts of the state.

As the state is located at the junction of many storm tracks, Rhode Island's weather is subject to frequent and sudden. The worst storms to hit the island was the great gale in 1815, the 1938 hurricane, and a severe blizzard in 1978.
