Sicily

The island of Sicily lying in the Mediterranean is an autonomous body. Lying in the southern part of Italy the island is one of the major tourists attractions in the world. As a matter of fact Sicily is the largest island in the Mediterranean. The island's governance and the National flag has been recognized in the year 2000. the island covers an area of 25,700 kmē and has 5 million inhabitants as its population.


The island is famous for its famous sons who are chiefly the from the field of arts. Sicily is a well known region full of poets and writers. The list of her famous sons includes Luigi Pirandello, Giovanni Verga, Salvatore Quasimodo, Gesualdo Bufalino. Other famed artists from the island are composers Sigismondo d'India, Girolamo Arrigo, Salvatore Sciarrino, Giovanni Sollima (from Palermo), Alessandro Scarlatti (from Trapani or Palermo), Vincenzo Bellini, Giovanni Pacini, Francesco Paolo Frontini, Alfredo Sangiorgi, Aldo Clementi, Roberto Carnevale (from Catania).


Two of the famous traditional folk arts which draws heavy influence on the island of the Norman's literature, were born in Sicily. Another famous art in the island is visible on the Donkey carts. The intricacies of the art describes the influence Norman has on the lifestyle of Sicily. The traditional performing art of the island like the puppet theatres and the local handicrafts also shows the influence of the literature of Sicily. The local baroque architecture is also expressed well in Noto, Ragusa and particularly Acireale.


The opera house of Teatro Massimo is the largest theatre house in Italy and the third largest in the world with a seating capacity of 1,400 people.

The Sicilians usually speaks Italian and Sicilian.
