Turks and Caicos Islands

A British Overseas Territory, the Turks and Caicos Islands consist of two groups of tropical islands in the Caribbean.

The Turks Islands group consist of a chain of island stretching from north to south, covering a total area of 26.7 km², supporting an estimated population of 5 753. The two main islands of the group are both inhabited.

The Turks Islands group is smaller than the Caicos Islands which cover almost 96 percent of the land area (589.5 km²) and support 82 percent of the population (26 584 out of a total of 32 337 in 2006). Out of the six administrative districts of the territory, the Caicos Islands include 4 districts and consist of six main islands and two smaller islands. Of these four are inhabited.
