Balboa Island Ferry

The Balboa ferry service is operational in the island since 1919. The ferry was first started by Joseph Beek who earned the rights of running a ferry service from the city of Newport Beach to Balboa Island and Balboa Peninsula. In the early stages Joseph used to own 'the Ark', a giant rowboat with a small engine providing transit facilities between Balboa Island and the Balboa Peninsula. Later Mr. Beek used the Ark for the full fledged ferry service carrying passengers.

Since then the ferry service in balboa Island has never looked back and has developed in leaps and bounce. Today it portrays as one of the most developed ferry services of the world providing transit facilities not only to the passengers but also to their vehicles and belongings.

In the early stages the ferry used to travel a distance of 0.25 miles which today has been extended to 5 miles. The access to the Newport Harbor is also possible via bridges and driving but the beauty witnessed while a boat ride is incomparable. Experience the historic charm on the trail over water crossing the scenic beauty. A true experience of a exciting on board life.

Its not just the passengers who are provided the transit facilities. The service is also extended to their vehicles as well. there are three ferries providing transit facilities from Newport Harbor to the Balboa Island and Balboa Peninsula. These are Captain, Commodore and Admiral.

The best part of the ferry service in Balboa Island is the rate of the service. It does not come with a high price tag, which is quite ironical to the cost of living in the island. Till date the ferry in Balboa Island has provided services to over 2 million people. Presently the ferry service of Balboa island is under the supervision of three sons of Mr. Beek.

The ferry service is quite regular and the boats reach a high speed of 4 miles per hour.
