Bora Bora

Marked by the geographical coordinates of 16°26'40?S, 151°45'5?W, Bora Bora is an island in the Leeward group of the Society Islands of French Polynesia, which in turn is an overseas territory of France in the Pacific Ocean.

The island is located northwest of Papeete, the French Polynesian capital, at a distance of about 260 km from it and is surrounded by a lagoon and a fringing reef. An extinct volcano's debris occupies the centre of the island consisting of twin peaks of Mt. Pahia, and the highest point, Mount Otemanu, reaching 727 meters (2,385 ft.).

The island falls under the administration of the commune (municipality) of Bora-Bora, which is a part of the administrative subdivision of the Leeward Islands.

Total population of the island, as per 2002 census was about 7,250 people.
