Isla Mujeres Ferry Services


If you are the one who loves traveling on water, you can get to Isla Mujeras through two ferry docks. The first one is Puerto Juarez, which is closer to downtown Cancun city and the airport or you can opt for the second one- Gran Puerto Cancun, which sits less than a half a mile before the Puerto Juarez ferry docks.


It would be more convenient for you to catch the ferry at Puerto Juarez or Gran Puerto in case you are arriving to Cancun by bus or air.


Puerto Juarez
The strategic location of Puerto Juarez makes it a convenient ferry dock due to its easy accessibility from the bus station where you can take the R15 local bus or simply board a taxi as it is the easiest and the fastest way to reach the dock, within 10-15 minutes. Ferries to Isla Mujeres from Puerto Juarez leave every half hour starting from 6:30am to 8:30pm with a final ferry leaving at 11:30pm.


Gran Puerto Cancun
Gran Puerto Cancun is more convenient for those travelers whose hotel is in the hotel zone or are traveling through it and wish to enjoy a ferry ride to Isla Mujeras for the day or over night. The ferry drops the passengers off at the tall observation tower [El Embarcardero] at the northern end. There are ample signs put up to direct the travelers to the docks.


There is no reason to choose between the ferry to Isla Mujeres from the Gran Puerto and Puerto Juarez over cost issue as both costs the same.


There are Express boats that leave every half hour with a crossing time of 15 minutes. The first ferry leaves from Cancun at 6:30 in the morning, whereas the first express boat leaves the dock at 9:00 PM, leaving every hour until 12 midnight.


Those traveling with cars can avail of the car ferry service at Punta Sam, five miles north of Puerto Juarez, which leaves 5 times a day at 8:00, 11:00 am, 2:45, 5:30 and 8:15 pm.
