Virgin Gorda

Virgin Gorda falls in the third place when it comes to the area of different islands of the British Virgin Islands. The island spread over a total area of about 8 square miles (21 sq. km) and extends between 18 degrees, 48 minutes North, and 64 degrees, 30 minutes West. Christened as "The Fat Virgin" by Christopher Columbus due the fact that the island's silhouette resembled the profile of a rotund woman lying on her back, he "plumpness" of this belly does not mitigate the enchantment with which it captivates the tourists, who swear by its laudable beauty.

One of the BVI's major tourist destinations, Virgin Gorda is vastly popular for "The Baths" located on the southern end of the island. These are unusual geologic formations dotted with exotic pools and scenic grottos formed by giant boulders strewn across the beach in piles, which show evidence of the island's volcanic origins. You can often catch tourists swimming and snorkeling in "The Baths".
