Hawaii Islands Ferry

Though there is no inter-island ferry in Hawaii, there are plans for beginning a Hawaii Super Ferry in early 2007. Until then the only way to get to other islands is by taking an inter island flight on one of the Hawaii Airlines. Though boat charters can be taken from the island of Maui to Lanai and Molokai, the other inter island channels are too rough making it unfeasible for ordinary boats to cross them.

This Super ferry will be of immense convenience for the locals and the tourists alike as it will provide car ferry service as well in addition to the passenger ferry service.

Though the crossing time of the ferries will be three times as long as air travel, it is worth visiting the another islands completely diverse from each other. In fact, with rising airfares and irregular schedules the ferry sounds like the best option in all circumstances.

The Hawaii Superferry, a four-story catamaran, is supposed to ferry from Honolulu, on the island of Oahu, to Maui and Kauai in a little over a year. A second ferry service is expected to start in 2009 between Honolulu and the Big Island.
