Weather in Reunion

The best time to make a trip to the Reunion island is from May to November. This time the trade winds keep the island temperatures moderate. The worst time to visit is December-February. At this time, the temperatures are about 10 degrees F/5 and it rains a lot. Cyclones are not precisely common at this piece of land but can hit any time during November-April. Reunion's annual rainfall is high: 150 in/380 cm on the eastern coast and up to 250 in/635 cm in the island's central mountain region.

It is only because of the high mountains, that the island's climate differs from that of Mauritius. However, it still undergoes only two distinct seasons: the hot, rainy summer from October to March and the cool, dry winter from April to September. The windward east coast is considerably wetter than the dry, brown west coast, but the wettest region is the heights above the east coast.

Temperatures on the coast average 21°C (70°F) during winter and 28°C (82°F) during summer. In the mountains, they drop to a 12°C (54°F) daily high in winter and 18°C (64°F) in summer.
