Things To Do In Tasmania

The offshore island state of Tasmania is widely thought of as a homegrown version of England, while the northern and northwestern regions of Tasmania seem to an extension of Somerset or Surrey. While the historic shipping-port city of Hobart celebrates its rich cultural legacy with various ingenious art forms including the culinary art of its chefs working their magic in its many fine restaurants, the lush green rainforests are undoubtedly the pride of the Kiwis.

Its plethora of natural bounty in form of sandy white beaches to lush green wilderness have been duly recognized by the United Nations and declared as World Heritage Sites covering more than 20 percent of the island

What's more, just add in the pleasant temperate climate, with plentiful sunshine and you are set for various outdoor adventure activities.

World class Hiking: Hike through the wilderness and explore the hidden beauty of the island across its 50-mile Overland Track, which begins near Cradle Mountain/Lake St. Clair National Park.

Fishing: - Fish in its thousands of freshwater, big game, estuary and sea fishing spots. Some of the largest brown trout (up to 29 pounds) inhabit more than 3,000 pristine lakes and streams in Tasmania. Arthurs Lake in the Derwent Valley Central Highlands are a good place for novice anglers to get their first catch with fly-fishing.

Skiing and white-water rafting are other popular adventure activities in Tasmania.

Golfing: Try your hands at golfing in any of the 69 landscaped golf courses in Tasmania including Rathos, Australia's oldest golf course.

Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service: Explore the exotic wildlife at various National Parks in Tasmania.
