Weather in Tasmania

Though Tasmania's climactic condition can be widely summarised as temperate maritime climate, it is uniquely blessed with four distinctly different seasons, each of which brings a special joy with it.

More than the weather fluctuations, it is the rainbow of its colourful festivals that mark the seasonal cycle in Tasmania.

Summers are gala with unending fun and festivities at the Launceston Festivale, the Hobart Summer Festival, where the Taste of Tasmania is a must, and the North-West's athletic carnivals.

Autumn is mildly flavoured calm, sunny days. The entire land explodes with a rich colour palette of the native deciduous beech and vibrant hues of red, orange and gold of the European trees.

Winter in Tasmania is snowy on highland peaks and often crusty, fresh and stimulating with clear blue skies and bright sunshine. There are plentiful open fire gatherings and bon fires to beat the chill.

The fresh cool Spring is a welcome respite after the chilly winter as the gardens around the state bloom with colourful flowers, setting the stage for the Blooming Tasmania festival.

The amount of rainfall varies dramatically across the State hovering between 626mm (24 inches) in Hobart, to an annual average of 2400 mm (95 inches) on the west Coast.
