Weather in Galapagos Island

The weather in Galapagos Island is largely determined by the ocean currents, particularly the cool Humboldt Current, which causes a generally mild and dry weather condition over the island, with the temperature rarely rising above 80°F.

The climactic conditions of the Galapagos Islands have been varying from season to season and year to year, displaying a huge temperature difference between the coastal areas and higher elevations. Though the island has a perfectly conducive climate for boat tours round the year, it is advisable to consult the weather charts before venturing into the sea, as the island is not immune to slight climatic variations.

June to December - "Dry season"

During this time of the year, the island is affected by the cool moist fog called a garúa, formed close to the ocean by a cold current rising from the south leading to a cool and dry climate. This time of the year is marked by mid day showers on the shorelines, clear blue skies and cooler water

December to May - "Warm season"

Hot sunny mornings followed by clouds and occasional showers in the afternoons are a trademark of this year of time as the wind force lessens, oceans become calmer and the currents change, surrounding the islands in the warm Panama Current from the North. Tropical weather with cloudy skies and warm ocean waters make it an ideal time for swimming and snorkeling.
